I'm Deaf.....It's contagious!!

Whatsup ya'll!

Sorry, i been kinda slack with regards to blog updates but at the moment, this is the last thing on my mind.
Varsity's been so hectic with work and prac, however i'm starting to really enjoy the coarse. I know you should have started deciding whether or not the course is for you in like the first year, but let's just that i'm a little delayed:)Ido however still get my days, where i'm sitting on a fence and things would seem so much easier if i had to just pull out.

Moving on, i ended up at a children's school for the deaf. The school is positioned the other side of Bothas hill. Usually the varsity would provide lifts because we never know where half the places were. I do however think i will resort to taking my own car considering i had to drive to Westville, back, through Botha's Hill, back too Westville again and then baack to Kloof.
Wow, i'm not even going to explain to you how different it is being in the actual environment.
As much as i'd love to tell you what i did on the visit, it's a little complicated and boring if i had to even make an attempt! Anyway, a lot of it was interacting with the children and seeing how the classroom settings differed from that in other schools. These are children who are postlingually deaf (they only acquired language after they had access to hearing -such as a hearing aid). It is therefore difficult to communucate with them unless you had a fair knowledge of sign language. This module is only taken after the June holidays though. Well, i know the sign language alphabet so i managed to communicate a little with that and i appeared to get the messages through. on that note, it's amazing how well mannered tey were in comparison to children presenting with normal hearing. Everyone you walked past would smile and greet (either gestures or orally).

It facinates me to see how people respond or react to those who are either deaf or have a hearing problem. The hearing aid is suppose to aid one's hearing! Many people think that when an individual is wearing a hearing aid, they now cannot hear or the popular belief that they are cognitively impaired- which they are not (obviously there are exceptions). Well it's going to be interesting to see how the people of Kloof are going to respond, seeing me wear a hearing aid. many of my colleages have informed me that they cannot believe the reactionsthey get from others. The one girl took er hearing aid to the a1-Grand Prix and apparently she heard the girl say "She's lucky, she's deaf"
Another one was spoken to as if she was cognitively impaired. Will let you know of any remarks i get, if any:)

Anyway, yesterday i was assigned a hearing aid, of which i have to wear for a full week.
This provides us with a little exposure to the experiences of being deaf or 'hard of hearing'.
Man, it's so annoying! Something as small as the clanging of cutlery makes you want to whip the aid out of your ear!

Anyway.. swifting the topic a little. About eight loud bangs were what woke us up at 3:10am last night (Wednesday).
Eventually the whole neighborhood became an audience of these loud sounds!
Turns out, one of the neighbors from across the road was broken into and the owners actually caught the guy. Within 10minutes, the sirens were blazing through the streets.
I don't know the whole story but you craap yourself at the time. it almost sounded as if three consecutive shots went off, with a couple minutes wait and so went off again. So we picked up the phone, leaving lights off, dialing the cops to report the problem.
So apparently the male intruder failed at his attempts and was shot numerous times!

Which leads to....us getting a new puppy:)
My dad walks into the house, with a six week old Rotweiler puppy (excuse spelling)
So it looks like there's gonna be a lot more on my hands now!

Anyway... sorry this wasn't much of a constructive blog, but i'l definatley keep you updated!
For now im gonna run as i'm BUGGARD!

Cheers*
